StoryCelebrity blogger Perez Hilton has risked the wrath of Hollywood by taking aim at Drew Barrymore in his new tell-all book alleging the star’s sober public image is a charade.

The Charlie’s Angels actress endured a highly publicized battle with alcohol and drugs as a child star, but kicked her addictions with a stint in rehab in the early 1990s.

Earlier this year Barrymore insisted she doesn’t claim to be sober, but she’s found a “balance” that works.

Now Hilton has targeted the actress in his second tome True Bloggywood Stories: The Glamorous Life of Beating, Cheating and Overdosing, branding her a “f***** up mess.”

In the book, Hilton admits he wasn’t planning to mention Barrymore until an incident at a concert in Los Angeles changed his mind. He claims one of the actress’ friends told him, “Those that can’t do, criticize,” and he replied, “You know, you are right, but at least I won’t tell anyone what a mess (Drew) is…”

Hilton adds, “And I didn’t (tell anyone). Until now.” He goes on to write, “She is not the sober kitten that the main public may think she is.”

And Barrymore’s not the only star who will be fuming about the tome, which is released on Tuesday. Hilton also blasts Jennifer Lopez, alleging she set up a meal with her husband Marc Anthony and tipped off the paparazzi to dispel rumors their marriage was in trouble.

Hilton writes, “(Photographers) had received a call that basically instructed them where to be and what time and what to look for.”

fight club menu-thumbImagine you buy the new Blu Ray edition of Fight Club. You pop it into the player and kick back on the sofa for an evening of fighting intermingled with social commentary.

But wait… something’s gone wrong. The menu comes onto the screen and it’s… Drew Barrymore’s “Never Been Kissed?”

There is nothing wrong with your Blu Ray player… so what gives?

The menu is a gag… the kind you might see some of the characters in the film pull off, although Tyler Durden almost certainly would have chosen the menu from a porn film.

But Tyler Durden wasn’t behind this prank. It was the film’s director, David Fincher, who wanted to pick a different film from the same year that “Fight Club” was released. He even asked Drew Barrymore if it would be OK, according to a press release posted on Consumerist.

In any case, the “Never Been Kissed” menu goes away after a few moments… allowing you to watch “Fight Club.” (Holly-Weird)

20080206_dgu_h16_004.jpgIt’s back to the bachelor pad for Justin Long! The “I’m a Mac” guy was booted from girlfriend Drew Barrymore’s four-bedroom Hollywood Hills home in early November, Star has learned.

And though the two are still dating for now, their relationship could be in danger if he doesn’t clean up. “Drew really had it with being Justin’s babysitter
at home,” says a source. “And it’s not just that he made a mess, it’s his attitude. He gets mopey and is a big-time couch potato. She isn’t thrilled about seeing this side of him.”

Problems surfaced almost as soon as the pair — who first sparked in summer 2007, split a year later and reconnected last spring — began living together in August. “Drew hadn’t figured Justin to be a slob, but he started acting like a frat boy and left his stuff all over the place and never straightened up after himself,” says the source. “It drove her nuts!”

Drew, 34, finally had enough of the chaotic living situation. But she wasn’t quite ready to call it quits entirely. “She gently told Justin that things would be better between them if he moved back to his own place,” says the source. “Then it would be special when they’re together — they wouldn’t feel like an old married couple.”

The good news? Justin, 31, is trying to change his ways. “It was really the wake up call he needed,” says the source. “He knows Drew’s a great girl. He’s going to do everything he can to make her happy.”

charlies-angels_dlLast January, Drew Barrymore made her interest in making a third Charlie’s Angels movie public. Slight change of plans. Now, she’d like to update the old TV show for ABC. A rep for Sony Pictures Television confirms that the network is close to ordering a pilot of the reboot, which Barrymore would develop with Leonard Goldberg, who produced the original series with Aaron Spelling, and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles‘ Josh Friedman, who’s been tapped to write and exec produce.

The challenges facing the team are many: Though we all seem to get excited about action shows centered on ass-kicking woman, Nielsen families don’t. Fox canned Terminator and now Dollhouse, NBC made Chuck earn its renewal in Subway sandwiches. As we’ve seen (hello, Knight Rider), nostalgia will get you buzz, but it alone won’t keep viewers coming back week after week. Then there’s casting, which will set the tone for the show. Here’s hoping they’ll be looking for women in their late 20s or 30s (as the original did). It’s so much more appealing, for me at least, to think about watching women play detective rather than girls.

My colleague Michael Slezak was quick to offer his dream cast: Dirty Sexy Money’s Natalie Zea, who played Karen Darling; Alias‘ Merrin Dungey, who played Francie; and Secret Diary of a Call Girl’s leading lady Billie Piper. I’d keep Zea, and add Terminator Salvation’s Moon Bloodgood, and, in the Kate Jackson role, Claire Danes. Word was she was being courted last pilot season. (UPDATE: If Danes won’t bite, I’d go with one of the reader suggestions below: Felicia Day. I should have thought of that. Love her.)

normal_highres_1_01410989The first two “Charlie’s Angels” films took in over $523 million in the box office and earlier this year producer/star Drew Barrymore voiced her excitement at the high possibility of the third installment, but it seems even with her high profile the famous flick just isn’t getting off the ground.

“We would all be there in wheelchairs at some point and do it if we could,” a seemingly frustrated Barrymore recently told Tarts.

According to a film insider, the problem of it not going “Full Throttle” ahead is due in large part to copyright issues since Aaron Spelling (who founded the franchise) passed away.

“There are all sorts of complications,” said our source. “The Angels might have worn out their welcome, and some are questioning if its high-tech enough for today’s audiences.”

A rep from Barrymore’s Flower Films declined to comment.

But back the subject of girl power and kicking butt, Ms. Barrymore has had enough of woman moaning and groaning about gender inequality in Hollywood.

“Women have incredible opportunities and they have to get the chip off their shoulder and they have to say you know what, women have had extraordinary opportunities. I, as a woman, have had extraordinary opportunities. But you get there by doing the work, and proving that you can do it and doing the homework,” Barrymore added. “I never want women to feel like that, but if they did, god forbid, go out there and make it happen for yourself. Only you can make your dream come true.”

So who was it that gave the 34-year-old the best career advice that she continues to carry thru in making her own dreams come to fruition?

“Steven Spielberg when he said don’t act your characters, be your characters. It just took acting out of it and really had me involving myself in the character in a way that I immersed myself so much that I just believed I was them,” Barrymore added. “And I think that changes the performance, for me at least.”
