Actress Drew Barrymore is on the August cover of Nylon–and I the accompanying interview, the actress opens up about her dislike of technology, being true to herself, and simulating phone sex in her new movie, ‘Going the Distance.’
“You know, phone sex going awry is just a funny concept to me and I thought, This is going to be one of those scenes where we have to go balls out, and if it doesn’t work, it’s going to be editing room floor crap,” Barrymore tells the magazine about shooting the phone sex scene.
On being perfect:
“You have to not pretend to be perfect, because that’s not only boring as fuck, but it’s just not real… So I feel so liberated in that way. I just really want to be true to myself. That’s essential in life. I would never be able to put on a charade. I would totally f*** it up.”
On technology and social media:
“Ironically, with all this, ‘We’re now more connected than ever with technology,’ I don’t think we’ve ever been farther apart. I think it’s bulls***.”
On beau Justin Long getting naked for their film, ‘Going the Distance.:
“It’s funny because usually it’s the girl who’s naked. I was like, ‘That’s right, bitch. The tables are turned!’ ”
On working in Hollywood:
“I had a big gap in my life where I wasn’t allowed to work at all because no one would hire me, which was great because I think you need that humility. You have to have everything taken away, or you have to have a major reality check, so that you always appreciate what you have.”
On shopping:
“I never have time for shopping… I’ve been wearing the same f***ing pair of jeans for 10 years.”

Drew Barrymore has declared she packs a mean punch.
The Charlie’s Angels star has spoken about her passion for boxing, saying she turned to the sport to help her get fit.
“I went to a boxing class because I needed the exercise but I’m not athletic but unco-ordinated and lame,” the 35-year-old said.
Barrymore, who made her directorial debut with 2009’s Whip It, enjoyed her new workout.
“However, I found it so much fun. I’d never boxed before but I was beating the crap out of the punch bag. I was so into it,” The Express reports her as saying.

Drew Barrymore was offered $1,000 for her Mickey Mouse T-shirt by a fan of the cartoon character.
The Hollywood star was enjoying a relaxed lunch with friends at exclusive club Soho House in Los Angeles when the man spotted her wearing the vintage top. He immediately approached, and offered Drew the phenomenal sum.
She initially thought he was joking, but when the gent continued to badger her about the flimsy T-shirt Drew explained she had no intention of parting with it.
“She said she’d had it for years and it was one of her favourites,” a source revealed.
The man explained he was a collector of Mickey Mouse memorabilia, which was why he was so keen to get his hands on the apparel. He then scrabbled around in his bag and pulled out a cheque book, at which point Drew felt she had to make him understand she would not be giving it up.
“If I ever did sell the shirt, I’d only do it for charity,” she is quoted as saying. “But for now, I’m going to keep it on my back.”

Like her BFF Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore isn’t afraid of aging, but she’s also not afraid of going under the knife.
“I don’t want to be vain or fearful, and I don’t think I’ll do anything [in terms of plastic surgery], but if I want to do something, I will,” asserts the 35-year-old actress in the August issue of Elle. “From my perspective, there’s no reason to be afraid of aging, because if you age, you’re lucky! The alternative is death.”
She’s also not scared of being alone. Drew, who stars in the upcoming comedy “Going the Distance” with her ex Justin Long, is currently single, but has no qualms about it. “If you’re 35 and single and it’s a choice, it feels fine. So I didn’t settle with the wrong person yet. Big deal!” (Um, let’s not forget she did settle twice before — she was married to Welsh bar owner Jeremy Thomas for a little over a month in 1994, and comedian Tom Green for a little over a year in 2001. Live and learn!)
Kicking off her career at the age of 7 in “E.T.,” Barrymore has consistently been working since 1982, but somewhere along the line she got a reputation as a ditzy blonde. While she may be bubbly, could a ditz have achieved as much success as Barrymore — who owns her own production company Flower Films and won a Golden Globe Award for her portrayal of Edith Bouvier Beale in HBO’s “Grey Gardens” — has?
The media’s misconception of happy-go-lucky Drew puzzles her as well. “I make movies,” she says. “I have a passion. Puppies and daisies don’t accomplish anything. That’s not me at all.”
Of course, all that ambition can tire a person out. “For three years straight, I’ve been burning the candle at both ends, and as of last December, I just didn’t have anything left,” she reveals. “I’ve been so aggressive about living life to the fullest and being plugged into everything, but now I’ve ripped the plug out of the wall and put it on the floor for a while. I’m thinking about the same things as when I was 15, about spirituality and who I am, who I want to be. It’s cocoon, pupa, larva, and f—, I’m reborn!”
