It’s been a big month for her thus far, as Drew Barrymore just announced her engagement and also finds herself featured on the cover of the February 2012 issue of InStyle.

The 36-year-old actress adorns the publication’s front page while clad in white Max Mara dress and Tiffany & Co. earrings, with the accompanying skateboard-themed spread having been shot by photographer Andreas Sjodin.

On her wish that she lessen the pace of life:
“I would love to slow things down a bit. We’re living in a time when we have such expectations of immediacy. Everything is instantaneous, everything’s out there.”

On time with her fiancé Will Kopelman:
“It’s just the best! We go on group trips and spend holidays together – there’s a lot of love! And that is really nice and very different from the way I grew up, which was more unstable and inconsistent, with a lot of highs and lows. It’s funny, when I was younger, I used to say I’d hate a flat line – that I want the ups and the downs, the roller coaster. But I’m actually really enjoying the flat line.”

On her old-school ways:
“I’m an old-school gal. I love to play with hair and makeup and clothes.”

On her philosophy when it comes to life:
“Happiness is a choice. You have to choose it – and you have to fight for it.”

Drew’s New Year is going to be extra happy!

Drew Barrymore is engaged to beau Will Kopelman, a source tells Us Weekly exclusively.

Kopelman, 34, popped the question in Sun Valley, Idaho around the holidays, according to the insider.

An art consultant and son of the former CEO of Chanel, Arie Kopelman, Will first stepped out with the Going the Distance actress, 36, in February of last year. (According to a source, the couple dated briefly in 2010 but split up at the time, reuniting the following year.)

And, indeed, back in October, a Barrymore pal told Us that the former child star was “yearning to get married and have kids,” with Kopelman poised to propose “around the one-year mark of their dating.”

“He’s madly in love and knows she’s The One,” the insider said of her handsome guy; Barrymore’s recent exes include fellow actor Justin Long and The Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti.

t will be the third walk down the aisle for Barrymore, who wed Welsh bar owner Jeremy Thomas in March 1994 — only to split just a month later. Her second marriage, to comic Tom Green, was similarly short lived: They wed in July 2001, and Green filed for divorce that December.

Here’s the synopsis: A small town news reporter Adam Carlson (Krasinski) and a Greenpeace volunteer Rachel Kramer (Barrymore) are joined by rival world superpowers to save a family of majestic gray whales trapped by rapidly forming ice in the Arctic Circle. Adam can’t wait to escape the northern tip of Alaska for a bigger market.

But just when the story of his career breaks, the world comes chasing it, too. With an oil tycoon, heads of state and hungry journalists descending upon the frigid outpost, the one who worries Adam the most is Rachel. Not only is she an outspoken environmentalist, she’s also his ex-girlfriend. With time running out, Rachel and Adam must rally an unlikely coalition of Inuit natives, oil companies and Russian and American military to set aside their differences and free the whales.

The flick, which was inspired by a true story and also stars Kristen Bell, hits theaters February 3, 2012!

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Barrymore opened up about the opportunity to work with MTV and why she chose a West Side Story theme for the video.

“I’ve never done a music video and I’ve always wanted to. The format is dying!” Barrymore explained of her decision try a new creative outlet. “What I love about music videos are the stories in them.”

A fan of romance, action, and tragic love stories, Barrymore opted to draw on Romeo and Juliet, West Side Story, The Warriors and The Outsiders – all while keeping actress Chloe Moretz in mind for the lead. As for Tyler Posey, Barrymore discovered the Teen Wolf star along the way.

“I didn’t want to do a period piece, per se. For this, I thought, stick with the timeless,” she explained. “Take a jean jacket, its ‘50s, ‘70s, ‘90s, now… And I never met a graffiti I didn’t like! That’s how it all started.”

What started out as a small 2-minute project quickly escalated to an 11-minute video as Barrymore realized her ambitions. After asking MTV for permission to expand the project, the short was filmed in downtown LA on a shoestring budget and in only two days. Barrymore called in “every favor on the planet” to make it happen.

“MTV Networks finally decided they would let us make and air the 11-minute version. That, for me, is the greatest lesson in all of this,” she recalled. “If you really push yourself, you could create an opportunity for yourself that wouldn’t have happened otherwise. You have to earn it, and you gotta go out there and make it happen. How could I push the limit? Went outside the traditional lines on this one, I feel really lucky, just another side to me to not sit with your dreams, and try to make them manifest.”

Adding, “I spent three years on Whip It, and to do this in two days – wow. It gave me hope that you don’t have to take yourself so seriously.”

Drew Barrymore teams up with photographer Norman Jean Roy for a Neiman Marcus fall advertising campaign.

The 36-year-old actress is only the second celeb to represent the brand since the chain’s “Art of Fashion” campaign debuted in 1994.

“The shoot tells the story of a star’s transformation and Ms. Barrymore had a strong hand in the execution, even down to having a point of view on hair styling,” Eddie Nunns, vice president of Neiman Marcus brand creative, told WWD. “She’s a powerful, modern woman with trans-generational appeal.”

Drew’s campaign will debut in the September issues of magazines including Vogue, Vanity Fair, and W, and a digital version in collaboration with Vanity Fair will be available on iPad.

Drew Barrymore sits courtside with boyfriend Will Kopelman at the L.A. Lakers game on Friday (March 25) held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The couple, who watched the home team defeat the L.A. Clippers 112-104, shared a few laughs and kisses while drinking beer.

Earlier this week, Drew, 36, and Will enjoyed a PDA-packed lunch at Joan’s on Third.

Barrymore’s second directing effort explores the love lives and break-ups of a group of New Yorkers over ten years.

Drew Barrymore is returning to the director’s chair for her sophomore effort, How to Be Single, a New Line romantic comedy that Barrymore is also producing with her Flower Film partner Nancy Juvonen.

Single is based on the same-titled novel written by Liz Tuccillo and published by Atria on June 10, 2008. In the mold of New Line’s successful multi-story pics such as He’s Just Not That Into You and Valentine’s Day,

Single explores the loves lives and break-ups of a group of New Yorkers over the course of ten years. Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn wrote the adaptation.

(Single actually is a reteaming of the Not That Into You team; Barrymore and Juvonen produced that movie while Silverstein and Kohn wrote the script.)

Michele Weiss and Michael Disco are overseeing.

Barrymore, repped by CAA and attorney Steve Warren, made her directing debut in 2009 with Whip It, the well-regarded female-centric roller derby flick starring Ellen Page, Kristen Wiig, and Marcia Gay Harden among others. She recently wrapped a starring turn in Universal Pictures’ environmental movie Whales.
